TrailBlazers and Milestones

This weekend was the final race for the TrailBlazers – the kids running club.  We had so much fun running this summer and I was really excited for the kids to get to do their thing.

TB race day

It was a beautiful morning and a great course along the bay.

The kids all finished the 1 mile race and a few even completed their first 5k!  I am so proud of them.  One of my 5k finishers made this collage below.  I can’t even tell you how amazing it is to make even a little difference in a kid’s life.  It is the best feeling.

They all earned their race medals, that’s for sure!

We had another really important event this weekend – my nephew’s 1st birthday party!  In typical first birthday fashion this little cutie decided to start his party with a nap.  Once he joined everyone though, he was the life of the party.  He is the sweetest little guy and he loves being with everyone.

His party was a hit with everyone else too.  We got to wear silly masks.M dress up

And meet Cookie Monster.

M family

We visited with family who live far away.

M cousins

And hung out with old friends.

M boys

I’m sure this will be a big surprise to everyone who knows us, but Dane cracked open the piñata and could not have been happier.

And the birthday boy loved his cake.

Happy Birthday sweet guy.

My boys are not little anymore!  How does that happen so quickly?  This weekend Aidan tried surfing for the first time.  Our great friends are big surfers and offered to teach the boys.  Aidan was so excited!  Of course they want to do what the older kids are doing!

It was awesome to watch him try something new.  He is so brave.  And Liam is a great teacher.  Can you tell he liked it?

We had a great time the rest of the day at the beach too.  Note to self – do not build a mermaid sandcastle directly in front of everyone’s beach chairs.  You will spend the rest of the day guarding it!

Eileen and I started the day with a long run on the trail.  It was so great to run with her again!  We saw the biggest dog I have ever seen!  I actually stopped before passing him because it looked like he could take us and his owner!  He was practically a horse!  He was incredibly friendly of course.  Unlike that snake that I almost stepped on.  My apologies to the neighborhood I woke up when I screamed.  Since it was early and we had just ran quite a bit we decided to skip the selfie and go with a shadow picture.  Shadow pictures are not really that flattering, by the way.  We were laughing so hard because we were smiling for our shadow picture!  Can you see it?  Lol.

I did try the mirror selfie that my friends are so good at taking.  I have come to the conclusion that I am just not good at taking selfies.  Oh well…

This is true.  Hard, but true.

This weekend the TrailBlazers did speedwork.  My soccer kids always want to run and the faster the better.  I knew my TrailBlazers would love running fast too.  I mean, come on.  Who doesn’t love running fast?

We capped off the weekend by watching the boat races in the bay.  The boys were very excited about the hat give away too.

The yellow boat won this race, so I was happy.  😉

Hope you had a great weekend too.

So, I am wondering, when was the last time you ran really fast?

Feeling Lucky

It was a lucky weekend for the boys and I!  Look what Dane won at Fantasy Island!

FI D grabber

I usually talk the boys out of these machines because we almost always leave disappointed.  But Dane really wanted the Minecraft Ocelot – his favorite of all of the animals.  We couldn’t believe it when he won it on his second try!  Can you tell he was excited?

There is apparently a theme this year.  I have not seen giant sand sculptures in years and now they are all over.

The boys had a great time with their cousins.  They were good about going on rides together too.  We couldn’t believe it when all three of them squeezed into one bee though!

We got lucky at the kids running club this weekend too.  While we were running we found our mascot!  Hopefully it won’t be too fitting.  lol  The kids decided to call him Bob.

It was fun running and chatting with the kids again.

We had some of my favorites this weekend.  Carrot Ginger Soup is never a bad idea.

Sometimes you just have to make pancakes for dinner!  We love breakfast foods – just not in the morning.  These pancakes are so easy and it’s simple to change them up a bit too.  Usually we add pumpkin puree for pumpkin pancakes, but tonight we went with chocolate chips.

Easy Pancakes

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • dash of salt
  • large dash of cinnamon
  • large dash of nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp. canola oil

  1. Mix all ingredients together until combined. If too thick (because of pumpkin puree, etc), add more milk.
  2. Cook in a pan over medium heat until bubbles form on the top of the pancakes. Flip the pancakes and cook for another minute or so.

Fezzy likes his new friend.  Finally someone his size!

So, I am wondering, what is your favorite breakfast food to have for dinner?

Happy Fourth of July!

We hope you had a great Fourth of July weekend!

Ours started off with a trip to one of our favorite places on the island for lobster bisque and pizza.

My kids running club (the TrailBlazers) had its first meeting.  I was so excited to meet all of the kids and help them get into running.  We have a great group and I finally get to work with girls too!  It was actually a cool morning, which was perfect.  We will meet all summer and at the end of August run a 5k together.

My mom, the boys and I went to our usual spot to watch the fireworks.  I am so happy I get to spend these special times with them.

We had lots of pool time this weekend.  Here are the boys having a great time with their cousins today.  Dane actually tied this water balloon by himself.  He was very proud and I am happy to hand the job over to him!

Of course what is time with the boys if there are no tools involved?  This will eventually be a slide, rock wall, sandbox, picnic table, play set according to my brother.  Since he is an engineer I am going to take his word on it.

I got to hold this cutie in church today. :)  I have no idea why I waited until the end of the day when he was eating to take his picture.

Hope you had a great weekend too.

Things To Do In The Heat

Today was a scorcher, that’s for sure.  My car thermometer read 97 degrees at 4:30!  The girls and I had a long chat this morning about going to the beach…  But it is the last week of school and there is so much to get done.  Hopefully later this week!  So here is what we did in the heat today.

Shopping Cart

The boys and I went to Costco to stock up on cold things.  Yes, we go to Costco and BJs.  They are both good for different things.  We like BJs better, mostly, but the boys say you can’t beat the samples at Costco.  One thing is the same at both places though – you must ride the shopping carts!  They are extra long so they don’t tip over at all – even if an adult rides on them!  Try it.  You will thank me.

run hot

We went running!  Of course we did.  We did choose the shadiest place we could find though.  It was not bad at all in the shade.  For me it is the sun and not so much the heat that steals all of my energy.  How about you?  Can you run in the sun?  A lot of my friends can.  I need to work on it, I guess.

We ate summery (yes, that is a word) food for dinner.  I am so glad my boys don’t have food issues.  Mostly.  They are always up for something different.

teachers gifts

We finally finished the teacher’s gifts.  Just in time too!  I guess that is not really so surprising though.

We finalized the details for my summer kids running club at our running club meeting tonight.  I am really looking forward to this.  I love coaching and I love running.  I can’t wait to get it started.

So, I am wondering, what did you do on this hot day?
