Nerf War Party Time

Jan 2015 011

Remember birthday parties when you were a kid?  The anticipation, the excitement, the friends, the presents? My kids absolutely love planning their birthday parties. Whatever was the last most fun party they attended is usually their starting point. This year, however, we had the debate over the age that birthday parties should stop. Both boys have had a party every year since their first birthday. The “being a kid” factor won out and Aidan had an 11th birthday party. We just decided to keep it smaller than other parties, which was actually really hard. I’m so glad we had the party!

Nerf wars have been very popular with Aidan and his friends this year, but the winter weather has made them hard. They were all pretty excited to get together for one again.

This gym has a good amount of space for the boys to chase each other, plus it has hiding places. Perfect.

It was almost impossible to get them all to stay still at the same time for a picture, which I guess means they were having fun.

Add in a few trampolines and you know this crew slept well that night!

They must be getting to the age where they start eating us all out of house and home because we went through a crazy amount of pizza afterwards. Of course, there is always room for cake.

Aidan had a wonderful birthday. Thanks to all of his friends who made it special for him.

For Aidan’s Nerf War cake and cupcakes, I decided to go camouflage. Since yellow is not the most boyish color, it seemed like a good idea.

The cake was pretty obvious with the iconic Nerf sign in fondant and a dart.

The cupcakes were not as easy for me though. I finally decided to make a target out of chocolate using my cookie molds.

Aidan was pretty happy with the results.

Turkey Shoot, Nerf War, Girls Night Out…and no one got hurt!

This weekend I got to see my cute buddy with the matching boot. Isn’t she so sweet? This definitely makes me feel better about wearing mine!

The kids have half days last Friday and this week (don’t ask – I have no idea) which leaves more time for fun. They kicked off their shortened schedule with a lunch date with their friends. Well, maybe it was more of a snack date.

They are just getting to the age where they make their own plans that are sort of realistic. The boys in Aidan’s class planned a very detailed capture the flag Nerf War for this weekend. These boys are such great kids. They had a great time.

After they were thoroughly worn out (and at a sleepover party) I got to catch up with the girls – at night!!!

The Turkey Shoot (BB Gun Target shooting) event that I have been working on was this weekend too. We got very lucky with the weather! And also with the people who helped us this year. It ended up being a very fun event.

The boys love target shooting and we are thankful to have the opportunity to do this with all of our friends.

Of course the boys always look forward to playing football and running around in the woods with their friends too. For some reason food always tastes awesome at camp.

Look at this cute dragonfly my friend Angela caught! Lisa and I got to catch up finally too.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day and I couldn’t have been happier when my good friend had us to dinner afterwards. Thanks Loren! It was fun to relax and catch up after a busy weekend.

So, I am wondering, do you think kids should eat lunch at school on half days?

It’s been a while since I have told you about my soccer team.  I am still coaching Dane’s U9 travel team, the Hurricanes. I LOVE coaching him and we honestly have an amazing group of boys this year.

One of our players was injured today and we missed him. The rest of these boys played their hearts out. We won by 4 goals and the boys definitely deserved the win. I am amazed at the progress they have made this year. They are all wonderful kids and I love watching them mature as soccer players. I am so proud of Dane’s work in goal too.

We are having a great season with only one loss. My assistant is an old friend and a well respected coach – you might recognize him.

So that’s my update on our season!  Can you tell I am proud of these guys?

Aidan had a great day today too. One of his friends hosted a nerf war at the local fields. What a great idea! Of course the boys loved it.

So, I am wondering, did you get outside today?
