Physics and Fun

The theme this weekend seemed to be physics, although I’m not sure the boys would describe it that way.  Today they experienced gravity and the laws of motion on the rides at Great Adventure.  Dane was brave and rode every roller coaster he could, thanks to Uncle John.  There is no way I am getting on those!

We had another physics lesson this weekend at the Cub Scout Rocket Derby.  At this event the boys build soda bottle rockets and then launch them.  The rockets use water and pressurized air to launch them hundreds of feet high.  Last year the rockets reached over 300 feet in the air!  After launching, the boys compare which designs and water levels performed the best.  It is so much fun watching them launch!

Since we have no choice but to accept that summer is ending, we decided to get some of our favorites in again this weekend.  Tonight we watched a beautiful sunset on the bay.

Then had lobster bisque at Chowda in Bay Village.

We had another special dinner this weekend for my dad’s birthday.  We went out for one of his favorites – shrimp parm.  It was a very fun night.  Happy Birthday!

Summer Fun Preview

It’s hard to believe how nice the weather has been the last couple of days after the winter/spring we have had so far this year.  We could not pass up this opportunity to take advantage and get in some beach time!  The boys and I have a Mother’s Day tradition of renting a surrey and riding around the island.  We have done this for the past 5 years and it is a special time for us.  It’s just the three of us pedaling around with no distractions.  We have the best conversations!  True quality time.  At this point, it is pretty good exercise as well – they are not as small as they were 5 years ago!

Then we headed to Bay Village for our favorites – pizza, lobster bisque and fudge.  Soo good!

We spent the rest of the afternoon with Nana and Popop where Popop spoiled us with a great dinner.  Of course there were presents.  😉

And Nana made us a sinfully delicious chocolate strawberry shortcake.  It was almost too pretty to eat.  Almost…

The beach weather continued today.  Yay!  My mom friends and I love when it is beach weather while the kids are still in school.  We get to go to the beach like we were teenagers again.  So after a fun run with the girls I met Eileen, Melissa and Gina at our street.

4 girls.JPGI hope we get a few more days like this before school gets out for the summer!  I consider this “my street.”  I have been coming to this beach since high school and it never gets old.  You can’t beat this view!

So, I am wondering,  do you relax in the sand at the beach or spend more time in the water?

Lobster Bisque and Fudge

Lobster Bisque and Fudge.  It’s safe to say it was not a low cal night!

This is a favorite tradition on the island that the boys and I try to do a couple of times each summer.  Chowda makes the best lobster bisque you will ever taste, and, luckily for me, my boys agree.

Many of the shops and restaurants on the island close after Labor Day, so we had to get one last bread bowl in!  Yummy.  Then the boys each chose a fudge flavor for dessert from Country Kettle.  Chocolate and creamsicle tonight.

Fudge Box Fudge

They were making fudge while we were there so we got to watch that for a bit.  : )  Do you see it in the background?

Then we walked over to the playground on the bay to watch the sunset.  It was a little cloudy, but there was still a sunset.

It was a special night with my boys.  We completed one of our summer traditions, and I know we will remember these times for years to come.

So, I am wondering, what is your favorite flavor of fudge?

I am also wondering, what food says “summer” to you?
