The Halloween House

Here is a scary story to start your day.

The Halloween House, by Dane

I was racing up the block trying to maximize the amount of candy I could get. It was Halloween night and the wind was howling. Suddenly, I saw a huge black house towering over me. It had cracked windows and a green substance on it. There was a tree in the front yard, mysterious eyes in the windows and a graveyard in front. My knees were trembling, but I still went inside.

As I got into the house I heard a terrible shriek. Inside there were bloodstains and a green substance on the couch and glass on the ground. There was a chandelier and cobwebs were everywhere. I tried to get out but the door was locked! I found a window but it was too small. BANG! BANG! “Something is in that room,” I murmured under my breath as my eyes widened with fear. I smelled a foul stench like rotten eggs. After that, I heard a faint moan. “That probably was my stomach,” I quietly said to myself. To my surprise, the doorknob started to turn. My head shifted to the door. The smell got stronger and worse. Then I heard a loud shriek and an organ started to play. Next, one bloody zombie and two white filmy ghosts popped out! I charged around the mansion three times looking for a way out. “Finally a window!” I said loudly. I was about to jump out when I realized it was on the second floor! After that, I spotted another window on the first floor. I bolted down the stairs and sprang into the window. “Owww! Oops, I forgot to open the window,” I said quietly. Next, I opened the window and jumped out and ran away from the haunted house.

Later that night, I ate my candy and remembered when I saw the ghosts and the zombie. I hope I never wander into a haunted house again!

Have fun today!

Crazy Costumes

Halloween has officially arrived for us.

Tonight we had our first costume event of the season. Gone are the days of cute costumes for my boys!

I love seeing all of the crazy costumes people come up with for Halloween.

The boys always love hanging with their friends.

Aidan won the costume contest!  That made his night!

Especially after watching another one of mine and Dane’s soccer games before we went. My Hurricanes played amazing again and came away with a 8 -0 win.  :)  One more game tomorrow. Tonight was a fun night.

I went biking again today. I guess it is actually called cycling?? I wonder if I will ever get that into it. It is definitely a great running substitute though because you can go far and fast. I’m so glad it doesn’t hurt my leg.

For some reason I was craving a tomato and spinach sandwich today. It even looks good to me now.

The Tooth Fairy usually brings the boys a special coin, but last night she brought Aidan an elephant made of tiger’s eye. He loves it. :)

Hope your weekend is off to a great start!

So, I am wondering, what does the Tooth Fairy bring your kids?

Happy Halloween!

We hope you had a very happy Halloween!  We did!  We had an unseasonably warm day that allowed the kids to be outside for hours in just their costumes.  Perfect!  My Pirate and Skylander (Chop Chop) were in heaven.

Fezziwig was a sport about debuting his costume as well.

Although there are many different ways to celebrate Halloween, the boys love running through the neighborhood with their friends.

TT group 2Don’t get me wrong, they do love the candy as well.  But the real fun for them is being dressed up and running from house to house with their friends.  The mood is festive, the kids are excited, and everyone we meet is happy.  There is one very popular area of our neighborhood where we often bump into other groups of friends.  This year it included fire pits in driveways, a blow-up movie screen playing Monsters University and tons of other festivities.

TT houseHalloween was on a school day this year.  Before heading out with friends Aidan had a Halloween party in class and Dane had a Halloween parade.  After missing Halloween last year due to Hurricane Sandy, we certainly made up for it this year!

So, I am wondering, what did you do for Halloween?

Trunk or Treat… Take One

Tonight we went to our first Trunk or Treat event with the Cub Scouts.  Well, actually, it was our first trunk or treat ever.  They seem to be very popular this year.  Aidan dressed as a pirate, Dane was Chop Chop from the Skylanders and I was a witch.

Trunk or treating is essentially when a group of people park their cars in a designated area and open their trunks to trick-or-treaters.  It is usually for a set time period.  Most people tonight decorated their trunks and sat by their cars with candy.  It was a lot of fun and has some advantages over regular trick or treating.  For example, we were with a ton of very good friends of ours.  We love trick or treating with our usual crowd, but you see less friends that way.  Also, you know the people giving your children candy.  It is fun to get to see all of the kids dressed up too.  And, since it is set up by a group, you don’t have to wait for Halloween.  This is why we will be going to a few this year.  :)  The only down side is you don’t get to walk off all of the candy you eat!

Before heading to our Scout event, I made Spooky Chili for the boys and I.  Sandy gave me this recipe and it sounded like just the thing to balance out all of the candy the boys would be eating later!  Plus it is spicy – something we love.

This is a vegetarian recipe.  I added more sweet potatoes than it called for because we love them.  Too bad I finished it right before we had to leave!  It was so hot I had to put ice cubes in the boys’ bowls so they could eat it.  You can find the recipe here: http://m.deliciousliving.com/recipes/spooky-chili

Today was a much anticipated day for the boys for another reason also.  Today is the day the Skylanders Swap Force came in the mail from their grandparents.  This was a birthday present that was not yet released on Dane’s birthday.  Needless to say, they loved it.

We have another fun, busy weekend planned.  Tomorrow we have a soccer game, the fall festival and tomorrow night a hayride.  Sunday is flu shot day for the boys (I already got mine).  Oh well.  Let’s just hope it works this year!

So, I am wondering, what are you doing this weekend?
