Camping and Soccer and Sun

We had such an amazing weekend! It was sunny and warm – the perfect weekend for camping and soccer. You really never know what the weather will do for our annual spring camping trip with the Cub Scouts, so we were very happy with this.

Aidan fishing

The boys love fishing here and I am so glad it is part of the trip. I really don’t see me taking them otherwise!

We didn’t catch anything, but it was so nice to sit in the sun and watch the water.

Dane fishing

We were especially glad to relax for a bit because the boys had just finished Gaga ball. This is still the camp favorite. Aidan won a round.

And Dane was the Gaga ball champion that morning.

Bb gun target shooting is my favorite! (Well, maybe it’s tied with sitting by the fire.)

The boys are pretty good shots too.

Camp Citta is really a beautiful place. I love the flags at the range.

And the swimming area.

And the lake.

The boys love just about everything about being here. Finding really big sticks is very important, by the way.

Old friends

You can get as dirty as you want, and whittle sticks in the dirt with pocket knives.

It’s basically a boy’s dream come true. I’m so glad we found the Cub Scouts so long ago! Every night ends with hot chocolate, dessert (everything tastes amazing at camp!) and a fire. :-)

Of course we can’t forget soccer Sunday! My U9 Hurricanes played so well and won their game 5-1. The best thing about this game is that all of the boys had a great game and they are remembering how to come together as a team. I’m so proud of them. I can always count on my Dane in goal and Aidan is our scorekeeper and time keeper now. They are the best. I am very lucky. Here we are after the game with our good friend Lukas who camped with us too.

Tomorrow is Boston Marathon day! One of my SOL Sisters is running it and I am so excited for her. You’re going to do awesome Jen! :-)

Turkey Shoot, Nerf War, Girls Night Out…and no one got hurt!

This weekend I got to see my cute buddy with the matching boot. Isn’t she so sweet? This definitely makes me feel better about wearing mine!

The kids have half days last Friday and this week (don’t ask – I have no idea) which leaves more time for fun. They kicked off their shortened schedule with a lunch date with their friends. Well, maybe it was more of a snack date.

They are just getting to the age where they make their own plans that are sort of realistic. The boys in Aidan’s class planned a very detailed capture the flag Nerf War for this weekend. These boys are such great kids. They had a great time.

After they were thoroughly worn out (and at a sleepover party) I got to catch up with the girls – at night!!!

The Turkey Shoot (BB Gun Target shooting) event that I have been working on was this weekend too. We got very lucky with the weather! And also with the people who helped us this year. It ended up being a very fun event.

The boys love target shooting and we are thankful to have the opportunity to do this with all of our friends.

Of course the boys always look forward to playing football and running around in the woods with their friends too. For some reason food always tastes awesome at camp.

Look at this cute dragonfly my friend Angela caught! Lisa and I got to catch up finally too.

We couldn’t have asked for a better day and I couldn’t have been happier when my good friend had us to dinner afterwards. Thanks Loren! It was fun to relax and catch up after a busy weekend.

So, I am wondering, do you think kids should eat lunch at school on half days?

Cold Turkey

Today was our Cub Scout Pack’s annual Turkey Shoot BB Gun event.  No, they do not shoot turkeys!  It gets it name from being held the weekend after Thanksgiving each year.  I remember when we first joined Cub Scouts – I was not a fan of the name of this event.  In fact, I just couldn’t imagine my little boys shooting at all!  Fast forward a couple of years and it is one of our favorites and I am a co-chair for the event.

It was an early, cold morning for us.  On the drive over to the range my car said it was 27 degrees!  Thank goodness we layered and there was a nice fire all day.

TS26The boys had fun being outside with their friends while they waited for their turn to shoot.

At all of our outdoor scouting events we can always look forward to awesome food.  I have no idea why, but food just tastes better when you are outside at the campground.  Kevin worked his magic for us again today with hot chocolate, coffee, pork roll egg and cheese sandwiches, hot dogs and homemade turkey soup.  Between the food and the fire, we were able to last until 4:00 in the freezing cold!

TS6The boys were excited when it was their turn to shoot.  It is very serious at the range.  The boys learn the safety aspects of shooting before they get to the fun part.

TS7Finally, the fun begins.  The boys each get to shoot 2 targets.  The top 3 scores in each division win a trophy.

So, I am wondering, would you allow your kids to shoot BB Guns?
