A Day For Games

Another snow day! The boys were thrilled with their “5 days off of school” streak.

Of course snow means shoveling out, which I usually don’t mind. It is a good winter workout, after all! Does everyone shovel out for their dog or is it just me? It doesn’t take long for the snow to get taller than my little 4 pound guy!

It was a great day for games. Luckily for us, my parents practically have an amusement park in their basement. The boys pretend they are not getting too tall for the bounce castle.

Aidan and Nana played darts and air hockey.

Guess what I was doing? There really is something for everyone! I got in 8 miles on the treadmill. It has been a few years (literally) since I ran on a treadmill. I thought I hated it, but it wasn’t too bad at all. The Real Housewives kept me distracted. ūüėČ I was much slower than I realized! I guess I’ll have to pay attention to that next time. Looks like there is more treadmill time in all of the local runners’ futures around here with extremely low temperatures and the possibility of more snow this week.

We finished the day off with a game of Life. Can you believe we had never played before? It’s a fun game.

So, I am wondering, what is your favorite family game?

Try Something New

So… What do you think? Every now and then you have to try something new. It’s not always easy. This theme change took me forever and I am not even sure I like it. But I’m still happy to switch it up a bit. Let me know if you like this theme or my old theme better. This cracked me up. But it is a good point.

We had an awesome lunch at my mom’s and dad’s today. We are still kind of celebrating Valentine’s Day – can you tell? It’s a good holiday to stretch out.

You can never have too much chocolate as far as I’m concerned. I proved that to myself this weekend until I finally had to tell myself to stop. Luckily Eileen and I ran 8 miles before the holiday.

Especially since lazy snow days and chocolate really don’t mix well!¬† Or maybe they do…

It was all BeachBody DVDs for the rest of the weekend. #windmills – “Nailed it!” That is for my sister in law, Ari. ūüėȬ† I really am glad to have¬†full body workouts and cross training right in my living room, especially when the weather is bad.

We took the kids to play glow in the dark golf before the snow came. You should go! The kids loved it and we did too.

We made a few other stops while we were there. It wasn’t a beach day, but there are plenty of other things to do in Atlantic City. It’s amazing how much fun a toddler can have eating in a restaurant.

I am often guilty of this…

So, I am wondering, what do you think of this theme?

Birthday Dinner Happiness

Tomorrow is my little guy’s birthday!¬† We will be very busy seeing Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2 and attending a Scouting event, so we had his traditional birthday dinner of Chinese food tonight.¬† It is one of his favorites and a fun tradition on his birthday.¬† Usually we order a bunch of random items off of the menu and sample them all.¬† Since it is a school night, though, we stuck to our favorites – vegetable lo mien, fried dumplings, egg rolls, fried rice and hot and sour soup.¬† Yum!

Veg Lo Mein

Tomorrow will be a fun day.  I am going to surprise him with balloons and streamers when he wakes up and a giant red velvet cupcake for breakfast!  Well the decorations might not be that much of a surprise since it is another one of our traditions.  Maybe he forgot.  But it will still be fun.

I ran my eight miles again today in honor of eight years.¬† Two down, one more to go.¬† It was a nice run past the lake and through the neighborhood.¬† Margie – next time beep!¬† (Just try not to scare the !#@ out of me!).¬†¬†Have I mentioned that I like where I live?¬† It’s a town full of friends, good scenery and a¬†good variety of running courses.

It was also haircut day.¬† Just a coincidence that I am included in that statement.¬† I always try to have the boys “cleaned up” before birthdays and holidays.¬† It’s not their favorite, but they look so handsome when they are done!¬† While I was at my salon I noticed a picture I had not seen previously.

Happy pic

I love this one because I truly believe that our perspective informs and sometimes acts as a catalyst for the events of our life.  A happy outlook can lead to good things happening in your day, even if it is just to make someone else feel happy.  I would love my boys to see this regularly.  I do have a somewhat similar picture hanging at our house.

Here’s to birthdays and happiness all rolled into one.

So, I am wondering, do you ever notice how your outlook affects your day?
