This morning my mom had the amazing idea to go to Atlantic City to see the sand sculpture competition.
If you live within driving distance, you need to come see this! It will be here until July 6th. This competition can trace its roots back as far as 1897. This year the competition is called the Sand Sculpting World Cup because the artists come from countries all over the world. The top prize of $75,000 will be awarded this Friday at 6pm.
Some of the sculptures are beach scenes, some popular icons and others are historical portrayals and portraits. The details are amazing and there is something for everyone.
This is Aidan’s favorite one.
And Dane’s favorite was this one.
My mom’s favorite was this portrait.
They used two different colors of sand to give the sculptures detail. Here is my mom with the boys.
These next two are really impressive. I would love to have this tiki in our backyard!
This one was a gear on one side and a nautilus shell on the other side.
Here are the boys and I.
They also had an Italian beach game called Cheecoting there. In this game the players roll marbles along a sculpted sand track to see who is the fastest. The boys loved it.
One for the Lego fans.
And one for my yoga girls.
All of the sculptures were not completed. I have no idea how the artists do such great work in the heat! It was seriously hot because we were basically back in the dunes.
I did manage to squeeze in a 6 mile run this morning. As I mentioned, if you are my neighbor, please be kind enough to turn your sprinklers on when you see me coming! 😉
So, I am wondering, do you still build sand castles?
