A Few Good Things About Cold Weather

Cold outside

Just in case you hadn’t noticed, it is really cold outside! Twelve degrees when I was driving home tonight! I’m not really a fan of any weather below 20 degrees because that is usually my lower limit for outside running. But I have discovered there are a few benefits to the cold weather.

I ran on the treadmill again today. The amazing thing is that I hardly remember it at all! An hour and a half flew by as I streamed a movie on my iPad. Multitasking! Plus, my leg feels 100% fine on the treadmill, so it is probably a good idea to run here while it is so cold outside.

Yesterday we made our weekly trek into Philly and had an unexpected cold weather perk there too. The parking kiosk was actually frozen and not working! Free parking! Hey, you have to look at the bright side sometimes.

I have to toss in here that heated seats in the car are pretty awesome. They heat up really fast while you are waiting for the regular heat to kick in. I wish the boys had them in the back seat.

Every morning our lemon tree reminds me of summer. It’s not doing too badly inside. So here’s to looking at the bright side for now and looking ahead to a fantastic summer.

Registration for the Perfect 10 Miler race opens tonight. :-). Definitely worth staying up until midnight. Are you registering?

So, I am wondering, what are your favorite things about winter?

I miss warm weather so so much right now! It’s supposed to start showing itself at some point this week, but I can’t wait until it’s here for good!

Skating and skiing! I am so DONE with winter at this point, but it has been nice to get active on the ice and snow :)

awesome reasons! (also, side note – I live right outside of Philly too!!). I honestly don’t like winter at all so I was excited to read this and see what you had! The treadmill is a huge reason for me too. I’ve become so dependent on being able to track my pace and time that I’m nervous to not have that once spring rolls around! I wish I could come up with some more reasons for you, but I honestly just can’t wait for spring to come back. Thanks for your inspiration though :)

      Hi Nikki,
I can’t wait either, honestly. So excited to change the clocks back this weekend. :-). I use a Garmin forerunner 10 to track my outdoor pace and distance. I can’t run without it! You should try one.

This is such a great reminder to not complain about the weather. I know that I have done a fair share of complaining myself this past week. Thanks for sharing. Here’s a blog post about my favorite things about winter! Winter

OUCH, I was just thinking about all you cold-weather-braving-folks this morning. I was running on the beach and thought of how blessed I am to have this weather here in Costa Rica. But to be fair, there are things I miss about growing up with seasons in NJ! I am actually from right across the bridge from Philly and LOVED going for walks all bundled up with my fiancee down South Street, checking in on all the little shops and grabbing a warming cocktail or coffee! It’s the little things you miss <3

So true! I would miss a lot of those things. But I sure would love a warm beach in Costa Rica right now! Want to trade for a bit?

I can tell you what I MISS about winter, but many of those things are what’s disrupting your March right now :) I’ve lived in Phoenix for nearly 9 years, and while the weather is great, I miss having actual seasons. I miss snow and warm bulky clothes and bundling up and frosty breath. I’m not sure if it helps, but there’s at least one reader out there wishing she could trade you a 20 degree run for a 70 degree one :)

Thanks so much for sharing! You are right. I do love the seasons. Thanks for reminding me. 😉

This cold weather is killing me, but a 10 mile run would do me all the way in. I need to get my butt in gear.
